Paroxetine HCl
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Depression 20 mg/day. May be increased by 10 mg/day increments w/in 2-3 wk of initiation of therapy & wkly thereafter. Max: 50 mg/day. Panic & obsessive-compulsive disorder 40 mg/day. Initially 20 mg/day, increased wkly by 10 mg/day increments. Max: 60 mg/day. General & social anxiety disorder 20 mg/day, increased by 10 mg/day increments. Max: 50 mg/day. Posttraumatic stress disorder 20 mg/day for not >12 wk, increased by 10 mg/day increments. Max: 50 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Preferably taken in the morning. Tab should be swallowed rather than chewed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs. Childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Worsening depression, suicidal ideation & behavior; akathisia. Discontinue use if seizures or serotonin syndrome/neuroleptic malignant syndrome occurs. Patients w/ or at risk of bipolar disorder; narrow-angle glaucoma; severe renal & hepatic impairment; cardiac conditions. History or w/ predisposing conditions of abnormal bleeding. Concomitant use w/ SSRIs, NSAIDs & drugs that increase risk of bleeding. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Asthenia, constipation, decreased appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, male sexual dysfunction, nausea, somnolence, sweating, tremor, agitation, blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
Decreased plasma levels w/ fosamprenavir/ritonavir. Increased plasma levels of procyclidine. Elevated plasma levels of CYP450 2D6 inhibitors eg, thioridazine. Pimozide.
